Foundation Goals for 2023
In total, we aim to raise $25,000 in order to make sure we can achieve our goals for this year. With your help, we can provide financial support to our first group of young equestrians. Our 2023 goals are within reach in our local community, your participation can help us broaden our reach for years to come.
SWVHJA Junior Scholarship Award
The Southwest Virginia Hunter Jumper Association awards a yearly scholarship to Junior SWVHJA applicants. We will match this year's scholarship of $1000. The scholarship is open to all junior members of SWVHJA, and the recipient is chosen by the SWVHJA board.
Zone 3 Equitation Finals Sponsorship
The USHJA Zone 3 L.M. "Sandy" Gerald Equitation Championship is an equitation final open to junior members of USHJA who reside in Zone 3. It is held yearly at Rose Mount Farm Summer Horse show. Juniors qualify by winning any of the Zone 3 state equitation medals or by winning any national equitation class in any state or zone. We want to sponsor an entry and cover horse show expenses to allow a junior to compete in the finals.
Lesson Packages
We intend to secure sponsorship for a year-long once a week lesson package for three eligible junior riders. This sponsorship is open to all levels of riders, and applicants will be chosen based on their trainer's nomination and review from the Trainer Alliance.
Summer Camp Opportunities
Our goal is to provide a summer camp session for a junior rider. Camp sessions allow for riding progress through lessons, hands on horse care, and experience in the stable. The length of session and chosen camp may vary depending skill level and age of the recipient.
Sponsorship for an IEA Season
The Interscholastic Equestrian Association allows riders to join a team and ride competitively without needing to own a horse or tack. We intend to sponsor a rider's entire IEA competition season. This will cover all expenses of the season; annual membership dues, entry fees for all 5 horse shows, coaching fees for all shows, and practice fees. These fees will vary based on rider's competition level and coaching fees.
$1,500 USHJA Mary Laing Memorial Pony Hunter Derby
The $1,500 USHJA Mary Laing Memorial Pony Hunter Derby is offered at the Maryland Horse & Pony Show at the Virginia Horse Center. This derby is open to junior riders on small, medium, and large ponies. We plan to sponsor an entry and cover horse show expenses to allow a pony rider to compete in this special class.
